When to Go to Tunisia

Tunisia enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and wet, mild winters. Sea breezes generally keep temperatures acceptable even during July and August. As you move inland, the climate grows hotter and drier, reaching extremes in the southwestern part of the country, where the Sahara Desert begins. Here you can expect extremely hot days (upwards of 110 Fahrenheit/43C in summer), and cold nights. The Mountains in north-western part of Tunisia are cooler both in summer and winter.

If you just want to lie on a beach and enjoy sun-bath, head towards Tunisia in July or August, when hot, sunny days are almost guaranteed. If you plan to visit cities like Kairouan, consider going in spring or fall season, when temperatures are mild rather than scorching hot. Spring is especially pleasant since the winter rains turn the countryside green. If you plan to spend more than a day or two in the Sahara, go in early spring, late fall, or winter, when temperatures can be more moderate.
